Commonwealth Edison proposed legislation in 2015 to make extreme changes to Illinoisans electric rates and eliminate the core rooftop solar policy of net metering. The rates that they are proposing are known as “demand charges” – archaic fees that would cause unpredictable and unavoidable increases to your electric bill. In addition, they are trying to stop rooftop solar in Illinois by eliminating net metering, the foundational rooftop solar policy that allows homeowners to get a fair credit for the power they produce.
